One of our four Core Values is being fully Engaged in the places we work and live. That’s because we believe it’s inherent upon developers to operate with a certain understanding of their place in the world. To act with empathy. To be nicer. Our underlying element of gratitude belies that understanding. Our compassion drives us every day, helping us build relationships and allowing us to give back.
And that’s why we’ve always taken great pride in being a responsible corporate citizen. We want to make sure we’re doing all we can to strengthen the communities we build in so they’re all better now—and in the future.
We’re proud of our efforts to strengthen Colorado’s communities through space preservation, education and more.
We’re proud to announce that our Hummingbird home in our Rendezvous community is the Children’s Hospital 2025 Mighty Millions Raffle Grand Prize! Children’s Hospital Colorado is ranked among the top 10 best children’s hospitals in the nation. By partnering with the Mighty Millions Raffle, we are helping ensure access to world-class pediatric care for families who need it for their children. Koelbel and Company is very proud to partner with the Children’s Hospital Colorado Foundation.
We created Rendezvous Foundation in conjunction with Rendezvous Colorado, Grand County’s premier mountain resort neighborhood. With a singular focus on Grand County, Rendezvous Foundation is intent on preserving its history and heritage and offers educational activities centering upon its environment and natural surroundings.
Foundation grants are generally directed towards natural area preservation, community enhancement programs, children education, promotion of the arts, affordable housing programs, environmental concerns and outreach programs. The Foundation always attempts to maximize the impact of its grants to the Grand County community.
In recognition of the Koelbel family’s continuing support of the Sewall Child Development Center, the Center’s new headquarters bears the Koelbel name. The late Gene and Walt Koelbel Sr. championed a 60-year history of aiding the Sewall Center, where children of all abilities and learning styles, including those with special needs, learn and grow together.
Through our longstanding partnership with the National Sports Center for the Disabled (NSCD), over 1,000 individuals living with a disability can improve their health, life skills, and overall quality of life every year by participating in adaptive outdoor experiences. Together we are transforming lives, families and communities while advancing a healthier, more equitable and inclusive world that celebrates each person’s abilities.
Driven by the core belief that everyone is able, and anything is possible, the NSCD uses the power of adaptive innovation, recreation, and Colorado’s great outdoors to help improve access, opportunities and possibilities for individuals living with a disability.
We believe a flourishing arts community, cultural diversity and educational opportunities keep Colorado thriving. That’s why Koelbel Family Foundation made a charitable capital contribution to support Rocky Mountain Public Media’s new community-focused Buell Public Media Center in Denver’s Arapahoe Square. The Buell Public Media Center, completed in 2020, is home to the Koelbel KUVO JAZZ studio.
Rocky Mountain Public Media is Colorado’s largest statewide member-supported multimedia organization and parent company of Rocky Mountain PBS, KUVO JAZZ and THE DROP.
As a continuation of our commitment to giving that benefits education, and the University of Colorado in particular, the Koelbel Commons Space at the University is part of a significant expansion and renovation of the Koelbel Building, which houses the Leeds School of Business. The Commons Space was developed to enhance the student experience by providing modern, collaborative areas for learning and innovation
Koelbel and Company has a longstanding tradition of supporting the University of Colorado and the Leeds School of Business. Renovation and expansion of the existing Leeds building was critical to enhancing the attractiveness and quality of business education at CU. The Koelbels seized the opportunity to foster a landmark gift and investment in a great university. The renamed Koelbel Building was dedicated in October 2007.
Three generations of Koelbels have graduated from the Leeds School of Business: Walt Koelbel, the late Koelbel and Company founder, and his wife, Gene; their son and current Koelbel president Walter A. “Buz” Koelbel; and Buz’s son, Carl Koelbel, who earned his MBA at Leeds and joined the family business in 2010.
The Koelbel Library, completed in 1992, serves as the central facility for the Arapahoe Library District. The Koelbel family recognized the need for a new and expanded facility to serve thousands of school age children in the Cherry Creek and surrounding school districts. Comprising more than 45,000 square feet, the state-of-the-art library was designed to create the interactive, invigorating atmosphere of an “information supermarket.”
The 45-acre Marjorie Perry Nature Preserve is a prime example of the Koelbel philosophy of preserving distinguishing land characteristics in property development. This awe-inspiring natural haven is the centerpiece of Koelbel’s The Preserve at Greenwood Village, the premier custom-home community in the Denver Metro area.
In addition to crafting community plans in accordance with best-practice conservancy guidelines, the company also donated an additional 60 acres to the City of Greenwood Village to be preserved as open space.
Established in 1996, the Foundation has supported numerous worthy causes, including the Sewall Child Development Center, Economic Literacy Colorado, Rocky Mountain Public Media, Goodwill Industries, The Denver Zoo, the Denver Museum of Nature and Science, and the Colorado Conservation Trust that was created as an open-space advocate for the State of Colorado.
